The Loft Access Company Supports DIY SOS

At The Loft Access Company, we believe in giving back to the community, which is why we were honoured to contribute to a recent DIY SOS project in Bracknell. When the call went out for tradespeople to assist in transforming a home for a deserving family, we didn’t hesitate to get involved. As part of the project, we supplied and fitted a loft hatch and ladder to provide the family with better access to much-needed storage space. 

 

In September 2023, seven-year-old Rafi was sent home from school feeling unwell. Within days, his condition worsened, and he was rushed to the hospital. Doctors diagnosed him with haemolytic uremic syndrome, a rare and serious condition caused by toxins from e-coli bacteria. These toxins led to kidney failure and then attacked his brain stem, causing irreversible damage. 

 

Twice, his parents, Laura and Dean, along with his sister, Sienna, were told to say their final goodbyes. But they refused to give up. Against all odds, Rafi began to breathe on his own. Over time, his organs started to recover, but his journey to rehabilitation was just beginning. He remained in hospital for months as his parents tirelessly researched his condition and worked with him on physiotherapy to regain as much motor function as possible. 

 

Eventually, Laura, Dean, and Sienna were overjoyed to bring Rafi back home. However, their house was not suitable for his new needs. Without significant adaptations, Rafi would have to return to hospital care—something no family should have to face. 

 

That’s when DIY SOS stepped in. 

 

DIY SOS has transformed the lives of countless families by building forever homes for those in desperate need. These projects offer hope to individuals trapped by circumstance, with nowhere else to turn. The impact of the show goes beyond just construction—it’s about restoring independence and dignity to families facing immense challenges. 

 

But these life-changing transformations wouldn’t be possible without the generosity of tradespeople, suppliers, and volunteers who step up to make them happen. The Loft Access Company was proud to play a role in this incredible effort, ensuring that Rafi’s family had safe and practical access to storage space within their home. 

 

We are humbled to have been a part of this journey and wish Rafi and his family all the best as they settle into their newly adapted home. A huge thank you to DIY SOS for making this possible, and to all the other tradespeople and businesses who came together to support this remarkable cause.
